Chin Aesthetics

What is Chin Aesthetics?

What the patient wants in chin aesthetics must be determined very well, and at the same time, the jaw line must be known very well. In this way, it becomes possible to obtain a satisfactory result. We can say that this operation comes into play especially if the lower jaw is very large or extremely weak. When patients want a perfect proportion in their jawline, they can easily turn to chin aesthetics.

Who Can Have Chin Aesthetic Surgery?

First of all, you need to wait until you are at least 20 years old to change your course to chin plastic surgery. It is not recommended to perform this operation before the age of 20. However, for chin tip aesthetic surgery, the person must not have any health problems that prevent the surgery.

This surgery cannot be performed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Finally, we should point out that this surgery is not suitable for those who have health problems related to blood clotting.

Provided that they meet the above criteria, anyone who wishes can benefit from plastic surgery performed on their jawbone and achieve a jaw appearance that is more compatible with their face. We can state that it is the most ideal aesthetic procedure for those who have a very small jaw structure or a jaw structure that seems to be adjacent to the neck.

Of course, those who want to eliminate small sharpnesses or deformities at the tip of the chin can easily have chin aesthetics. Because you can meet with your doctor and express your complaints. In this way, you can get more information from your doctor about whether you are a suitable candidate for chin aesthetics.

Will There Be Any Scars After Chin Aesthetics?

The answer to this question varies depending on where the incision is made in chin aesthetics. Most of the time, an incision made inside the mouth can be sufficient on its own.

In this case, there is no scar left on any part of the face or neck. However, in some operations, the incision may have to be made in the neck area. In this case, it is possible to leave a scar, albeit slight.

Let us note that the incision scar will be in an area as low as possible. This scar begins to take on skin color over time. In this way, its visibility will be much less.

Is There Any Bruising After Chin Aesthetics?

Patients may also want to be informed about the formation of bruises in the facial area. Of course, most surgical interventions cause slight bruising. Therefore, there will be bruising in the patient’s facial area after chin aesthetics.

Depending on the intervention, the bruise may also be concentrated in the lower jaw area. This bruising effect may be accompanied by edema and a slight swelling may be felt in the chin area.

First of all, we need to point out that all of this is completely normal. Additionally, since all of them are temporary complaints, no intervention is required. Of course, how long complaints such as bruising, swelling or slight redness last is closely related to the person’s skin texture.

In some patients, this problem disappears within a few days. However, in some patients, it may continue for a period of up to a week. Since this situation is medically expected, patients do not need to worry.

Chin Enlargement with Non-Surgical Filling

Some people who complain that their chin area is too small are not keen on surgery. Sometimes, surgical intervention may cause various drawbacks due to health problems. In such cases, non-surgical methods come into play.

Chin augmentation aesthetics with fillers is one of these methods. In this aesthetic intervention, filling materials that have been used for a long time come into play. Filling materials applied to the chin area by injection method come to the rescue of those who want a larger chin appearance.

However, there is an important thing to consider in this process. Another reason is that chin fillers are not permanent. The appearance achieved by surgery is permanent and the surgical intervention does not need to be repeated unless the patient has any complaints.

However, it disappears after a while as a result of the procedure performed using filling material. The filling material is spontaneously dissolved by the body and the chin area regains its pre-procedure appearance.

We can say that the process takes approximately 15 minutes. The permanence period of these fillers varies from person to person. We can state that it generally offers a permanence period of 12 to 18 months. However, after this period, there is no need to wait.

The filling process can be performed again, thus making the chin area appear wider or larger again. Both women and men can benefit from chin filling procedures.

Liquid Face Lift

What is Liquid Face Lift?

When it comes to surgeries, the first thing that comes to mind is of course side effects, anesthesia difficulties and the rest period after the procedure. So, where does technology fit into this? What if the person does not want to undergo or risk surgery? Modern medicine offers new alternatives to patients and doctors for face lift. Recently, the most commonly heard of these methods are liquid facelift, thread facelift, and face lifting by creating light or thermal damage. So, where exactly does liquid facelift stand among these techniques? The most effective creams and topical products only work where they reach: the superficial layers of the skin. However, in order to eliminate sagging, products that are injected into the skin and subcutaneous tissue have been developed to create significant effects. Most of such applications are called “liquid facelift” or “liquid facelift” by doctors. Fillers or muscle relaxant products used can lighten or disappear lines and sagging. These injectable products can effectively change the appearance, but do not create the downtime and cost required for surgery. In this method, by replacing the tissues lost over time, the patient is provided with his old appearance and even a better appearance by completing the normally existing deficiencies.

Who Can Have Liquid Face Lift?

Middle and upper age group patients with mild to moderate sagging of the chin, significant tissue loss, vertical lines between the lips and nose, and marionette-style lines around the nose and chin constitute the patient group that can benefit most from this method. Those with diabetes, some bleeding disorders, some muscle and nerve diseases, and some immune system patients are not suitable for this procedure. People should be carefully evaluated by practicing physicians before application. Recently, hyaluronic acid, which is preferred as a filler and is also present in normal connective tissue, has become the most used substance. In addition, products that activate the connective tissue cells under the skin and cause new tissue formation (tissue activators) are also available.

Things to Consider After Liquid Facelift Procedure

Side effects of the application may include slight bruising and redness at the needle entry points after the application. These scars disappear within 3-5 days and can be hidden with a simple concealer in the meantime. In applications performed by experts, there is no permanent swelling or balloon-like appearance on the patient’s face. In liquid facelift, the connective and fatty tissue that the tissues normally contain and are lost over time are replaced. Since this loss usually occurs in the deep layers of the face and under the muscle layer, when it is corrected, it does not create a swollen and unnatural appearance from the outside, and that swollen facial appearance that everyone is afraid of does not exist in this application. Due to the injections, sometimes a low-grade temporary edema may develop in the days after the application. In short, what you will hear most from those around you is that your face is in better shape and looks more vigorous. Minimal pain and discomfort is felt thanks to the numbing creams and sometimes numbing injections applied during the procedure.

Liquid Face Lift Permanence

The effect of liquid facelift can last between 1.5 and 2 years, depending on the material and method used. During this period, the material is absorbed as a result of natural metabolic processes, and as a result of the activation it creates in the tissues, the cells in the body can activate and form connective tissue elements. Thus, even if the material used melts completely, the skin becomes better than before. Application time varies between 30 minutes and 1 hour and does not reduce the patient’s quality of life. The patient is routinely called for a check-up after 1 week and necessary touch-ups are made. During this period, excessive exercise should be avoided. Liquid facelift is a procedure performed to restore lost volume to the face, giving it its former appearance or even better.

Youth Vaccine

What is Youth Vaccine?

Youth vaccine, also known as H-100 vaccine or IAL System, is one of the most effective methods in the fight against aging. Youth vaccination stands out as one of the alternative methods used to slow down the aging process and reduce the effects of aging. Although it does not require surgical intervention, the aim of the youth vaccine application is to give the skin a healthy, bright and youthful appearance, with the positive effect of which you will start to see immediately. In this application (IAL System) pure hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin. As hyaluronic acid penetrates the skin, renewal and tightening of the skin is achieved. Thus, a healthy skin is achieved.

As we know, babies’ skin is extremely healthy, vibrant and smooth. The reason for this is the high amount of hyaluronic acid in babies’ bodies. With the effect of aging, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the body decreases. Likewise, there is a parallel decrease in the rate of skin repair and tightening itself. Thanks to the youth vaccine application, hyaluronic acid is loaded back into the skin. Thus, the skin reactivates its self-repair and tightening functions.

What is Hyaluronic Acid Used in Youth Vaccine?

Hyaluronic acid, known as the secret of youth, makes our body look vigorous, healthy and bright until a certain age. Hyaluronic acid, which is found in almost every part of our body, from joints to internal organs, begins to gradually decrease in individuals in the 25-30 age group. This situation leads to the beginning of the process called aging. Decrease in the amount of hyaluronic acid in the body; It also means that shine, flexibility, repair and tolerance decrease. The aim of the youth vaccination method is to regain the hyaluronic acid that the body has lost.

In Which Situations Is Youth Vaccine Applied?

Youth vaccination can be defined as the process of applying hyaluronic acid in determined amounts and intervals to individuals with damaged skin and signs of aging. This method is applied to problem areas. It can also be applied as a complement to other treatments for individuals with damaged skin due to reasons such as smoking, alcohol, acne, sun and solarium.

Who Can Be Applied to Youth Vaccine?

Youth vaccination (IAL System) is a method that can be applied to all skin types over the age of 20. The H-100 vaccine, which is frequently applied to areas such as the face, hands, neck and décolleté, is a very effective application in terms of solving the problems in the areas where it is applied. The most common and important use of this application is anti-aging applications. Youth vaccine, which is applied to reduce the negative effects of aging on the skin, is a preventive and complementary anti-aging treatment.

How is the Youth Vaccine Applied?

There is no standard application protocol for youth vaccine applications. The patient’s needs and the doctor’s treatment planning play a key role at this point. However, the application is generally applied 10-15 days apart and proceeds in 2-3 sessions. H-100 vaccine administration is a process done with needles. Therefore, a numbing cream is applied before the procedure to prevent the patient from feeling any discomfort. Following this application, injection is performed. After the youth vaccine, slight redness and swelling may occur in the application area. In fact, although rare, bruises may occur. However, these disappear within 2-3 days. The effect of the youth vaccine manifests itself within an average of 5 days. After application, the skin looks vibrant and bright.

Septorhinoplasty

What is Septorhinoplasty?

It is a nose surgery. In this type of surgery, called nasal deviation, the curvature problems in the nose are solved.

In the surgery performed by the surgeon under general anesthesia, breathing problems and aesthetic concerns caused by curvature are resolved. In this way, health problems are solved and the unaesthetic appearance of the nose is corrected.

What are the Symptoms of Septorhinoplasty?

First of all, nose and breath sounds should be monitored. Inability to breathe easily while sleeping, dry mouth, and noisy breathing are the main symptoms of nasal deviation. Nasal congestion, small breaths, and nasal discharge are other symptoms.

For nasal deviation surgery, which is frequently seen in children, one must wait until puberty has passed. Because the body has not completed its development until the puberty period has passed, and permanent interventions made before the hormonal changes are completed are harmful. In such cases, which reduce the quality of life by preventing nasal breathing, it is necessary to consult a doctor immediately. Especially in children, periodic medical check-ups should be performed until they reach the age where surgery can be performed. After surgeries that provide a permanent solution, the doctor’s recommendations should be followed and check-ups should not be interrupted.

Things to Consider After Septorhinoplasty Surgery

After the surgery performed successfully under general anesthesia,

• Dressings and nasal bandages must be renewed within the period specified by the surgeon.
•Sports and heavy exercises should not be done and the face and its surroundings should not be contacted with water.
•In addition, it is very important to protect the nose against impacts.

What Does It Look Like After Surgery?

After the operation, a natural appearance occurs, but this natural appearance is more aesthetic. Internal and external problems in the nose are resolved. Cartilages are revised. The nose structure is arranged to best suit your face type.

Mesotherapy

What is Fill?

Skin quality deteriorates over time due to intense work and life tempo and the effects of negative environmental factors. The main protein fibers responsible for the elasticity of our skin are collagen fibers. 80% of the collagen fibers in our skin are type I and 20% are type III collagen, and thanks to these fibers, the skin is flexible and smooth. However, people aged 25 and over lose up to 1.5% of the amount of collagen in their skin every year, and accordingly, the skin’s elasticity, moisture retention ability and moisture density decrease. Due to this loss, expression lines begin to deepen in the early 30s, and then sagging and collapse begin to occur. The breakdown of collagen and elastic fibers is accompanied by a decrease in the amount of the body’s own hyaluronic acid.

Mesotherapy, which was first applied in France in 1952, is a method applied using very thin and short needle tips. Facial mesotherapy is an antiaging system that makes your skin look more vibrant and smooth by injecting vitamins, minerals and hyaluronic acid into the skin (middle layer of the skin). In facial mesotherapy treatment, substances such as salmon DNA protein, antioxidants, various vitamins, DMAE (Dimethyl Amino Ethanol) and low concentration hyaluronic acid can be combined and applied as needed.

When drugs are taken orally, intravenously or by intramuscular injection, not all of them reach the relevant organ as there may be losses during absorption. In addition, since the drugs given through these routes can reach other organs through the vein, there is a possibility of side effects. Mesotherapy, on the other hand, minimizes unwanted side effects because it delivers medication directly and only to the problematic area with small amounts of microinjections.

Number of injections made; It varies depending on the patient, the disease and the anatomy of the area where the injection will be made. In this treatment method, the final result is obtained within 4-6 sessions.

Due to the injections made into the skin during the sessions, skin redness, bruising, and mild edema may occur immediately after the application. All of these are temporary. However, it is recommended that people have this procedure done at least 3-4 days before important events.

After skin cleansing, anesthetic cream is applied to the areas where mesotherapy will be performed and left for 20-30 minutes. Afterwards, mixtures prepared according to the skin type are injected into the skin through small needles. Combining it with PRP treatment or fillers and botox applications increases the quality of the results obtained.

Mesotherapy is not applied to pregnant women, breastfeeding women, those with infection in the area where mesotherapy will be performed, and those using blood thinners.

A treatment of 4-6 sessions, approximately 1-2 weeks apart, is considered a cure. It is recommended to repeat the treatment every 6 months to maintain the vitality and well-being resulting from the treatment.

Mesotherapy; It can be applied to the cheeks, forehead, eye corners, upper lip, chin, neck and décolleté area, as well as the back of the hands.

SCALY SKIN MESOTHERAPY

Stopping hair loss; It is a scientifically proven treatment to strengthen thin hairs, turn them into dark black hairs, and stimulate new hair growth. Although products applied externally make the hair look brighter and more vibrant, the hair returns to its old dull and brittle structure the next day. The reason for this is that permanent improvement cannot be achieved since the hair root and hair growth center are not intervened.

Patients should wash their hair before mesotherapy. After scalp disinfection, the necessary products are injected with the help of small needles.

Applications such as dyeing and highlighting should be avoided 24 hours before and after mesotherapy application. Hair should not be washed until 24 hours later.

Mesotherapy is not applied to pregnant women, breastfeeding women, those with infection in the area to be treated, and those using blood thinners.

An average of 4-5 sessions are required to achieve the desired results. Hair mesotherapy and PRP treatment can be combined. PRP application increases the quality of the results.

Pediatric Ear Nose and Throat Diseases

What is Pediatric Ear Nose and Throat Diseases?

When our children get sick, life literally stops for parents. Although parents take every precaution to ensure their healthy growth and development, in some cases the disease suddenly knocks on the door.

Adenoid, tonsil problems and middle ear infections are among the most common ear, nose and throat complaints in children. When these diseases begin to occur frequently in children, disorders that lead to developmental delays and even hearing loss occur in children.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF FLUID ACCUMULATION IN THE EAR?

Fluid accumulation in the ear, medically called Otitis with Effusion, is a disease that occurs with the accumulation of fluid in the middle ear, behind the eardrum, without pain or fever. The most important symptom is hearing loss. Since there are no other signs and symptoms such as pain and fever, it is necessary to be careful to make the diagnosis. The child’s starting to turn up the volume too much while watching television, the need to call the child loudly when calling, or a decrease in school performance even though the child is doing very well in school may be clues to hearing loss caused by fluid accumulation in the ear.

HOW DOES FLUID COLLECTION IN THE EAR OCCUR?

Children are prone to middle ear infections. The middle ear opens to the nasal cavity through the eustachian tube. The function of this structure is to provide ventilation and drainage of the middle ear. The Eustachian tube is shorter and straighter in children than in adults. For this reason, it is easier to carry the inflammation from the throat to the ear. For this reason, viral infections are more common in children.

It is very important for parents to follow up and observe their children’s hearing in order not to leave them behind their peers in their educational years. When necessary, it is important to consult a doctor before it is too late.

Treatment Process

When you call your child, do you not get a response unless you make eye contact? Is he turning the TV up too loud? Apart from these, fluid accumulation in the ear is a very common situation in children who frequently have upper respiratory tract infections throughout the year and who sleep with their mouth open. So how should the treatment process be planned? When planning treatment, evaluation for allergies and, if necessary, performing relevant tests should not be overlooked.

Fluid accumulation in the middle ear is a condition that can be treated with medication when diagnosed early. However, in cases of adenoid enlargement and tonsil enlargement, which may cause blockage of the Eustachian tube, it may be necessary to resort to surgical treatment when drug treatment does not provide results.

With early diagnosis, inserting a tube into the eardrum easily solves the problem before it grows. The tube placed in the eardrum balances the pressure between the middle ear and the external environment and functions as the Eustachian tube, which is temporarily unable to function adequately. When the negative pressure in the ear disappears, the infection in the middle ear resolves and the cells begin to function normally. The inserted tube comes out of the eardrum over time, and during this period, the problem in the middle ear is largely treated and the child has normal hearing and an intact eardrum.

TONSILITIS (TONSILLITIS)

The most important function of the tonsils is to filter the microbes that come to the throat through breathing. However, sometimes the tonsils themselves become infected and the inflamed tonsils become swollen. Tonsillitis, medically called “tonsillitis”, is a common disease, especially among children. Infection that causes swollen tonsils can lead to neck pain, fever and headache.

If You Have These Symptoms, Your Child Might Be Having Tonsil Infection!

Redness on tonsils
mild fever
Sore throat
difficulty swallowing
runny nose
Cough
While postnasal drip is prominent

In Bacterial Infections;

Fever over -38-39 °C
Sore throat
difficulty swallowing
Nausea, vomiting
Sometimes abdominal pain
Pain in the ear
joint pains
Findings such as painful glands in the neck (lymphadenopathy) may be observed.

If tonsil swelling is accompanied by high fever, chills, pain in the ears, swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck area, abdominal pain in children, and vomiting, this situation requires medical treatment. For the treatment of tonsillitis, your doctor may recommend antibiotics depending on the severity of the disease and the area affected. If the tonsils become inflamed frequently, if they become large enough to make breathing difficult, if they prevent swallowing while eating, if problems in the tonsils occur together with adenoid problems, a surgical operation may be required.

Sleep Apnea and Snoring Surgery

What is Sleep Apnea and Snoring Surgery?

Snoring is a sound in the form of noise that occurs when there is stenosis in the airway. 45% of adults snore from time to time and 25% snore constantly. Although snoring is more common in men and obese people, it can be seen in anyone. The frequency of snoring increases with age.

WHY DO WE SNOR?

The area where the tongue base, uvula, soft palate and tonsils meet the nasal area is a region that can narrow spontaneously. As the muscles in this area relax during sleep, the air passage area narrows and the passing air creates vibration in the loose tissues, causing snoring. Thick and fatty neck tissue in obese people, and large tonsils and adenoids in children are the most common causes of snoring. People with nasal congestion create excessive vacuum in the nasal passages to take in air. This vacuum pulls the contractile tissues in the throat towards the airway, so that the person who does not snore when the nose is open begins to snore. Deviation problems that cause nasal congestion, nasal flesh enlargement, and polyps can cause snoring. Long or sagging soft palate uvula narrows the airway and causes snoring. During sleep, the tongue and throat muscles relax. Loose muscles cannot prevent the tongue from reaching the back of the throat, especially when lying on your back. Drinking alcohol or sedatives increases this muscle relaxation and therefore snoring.

WHY DO MEN SCORE MORE?

This is because fat is concentrated mainly in the hip area in women and around the neck and abdomen in men. This situation, especially in overweight men, increases the intrathoracic pressure due to the pressure of the abdominal mass on the diaphragm while lying down (especially in the supine position); As the tongue slides back and the soft tissues and muscles around the pharynx relax during sleep, conditions that cause snoring occur. It is thought that differences in women’s muscle structure also reduce snoring. Since women’s muscle structure begins to resemble men’s as a result of hormonal changes after menopause, after a certain age, their snoring rate approaches or even equals that of men.

IS SNORING A PROBLEM?

We call uninterrupted snoring, that is, unaccompanied by breathing irregularities, simple snoring. It was thought that snoring did not cause any harm to the patient if it did not cause breathing pauses or interruption of sleep. However, recent studies show that even if there are no respiratory disorders (e.g. respiratory arrests) during sleep, simple snoring can cause fatigue in the body due to the effort spent on breathing during the night, and therefore fatigue and sleepiness during the day. Here, the noise disturbs the environment, especially the partner, and disrupts their sleep. People who already have simple snoring usually consult a physician due to the insistence of their relatives. Snoring may be considered an insignificant and simple situation by some: However, sometimes it can become a problem that disturbs the entire household. It is certain that it has a negative impact on the quality of life. Other members of the family are held responsible for sleepless nights. A snorer becomes an unwanted roommate on holidays and business trips. A person who snores is likely to encounter many medical problems. The damage the person inflicts on himself is greater. There are nights spent without rest. High blood pressure is more common in people who snore excessively than in people who do not snore.

CAN SNORING BE TREATED?

Many types of snoring can be treated. Simple snoring can be improved by taking some precautions. The recommendations listed below should be followed for adult snorers. One should try to reach the ideal body weight. A sporty lifestyle should be chosen to gain good muscle tone. People who snore should not take sleeping pills, sedatives and allergy medications called antihistamines before sleep. One should avoid drinking alcohol 4 hours before sleep. Heavy meals should be avoided 3 hours before sleep. Excessive fatigue should be avoided. Lying on your side should be preferred instead of lying on your back while sleeping. The old suggestion of sewing a tennis ball onto the back of pajamas is still a useful method. This prevents sleeping on your back. Give people who do not snore at home time to fall asleep before you do. It is known that being overweight is one of the most important causes of snoring. It has been observed that snoring has significantly decreased or completely disappeared in 80% of overweight patients who lost weight.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

What is Endoscopic Sinus Surgery?

During ESS, pathologies in the sinuses are intervened with the help of some instruments used next to the endoscopes, which are placed in the nostrils without making any external incisions and provide a detailed view of the surgical field.

Today, ESC is one of the most frequently performed surgeries as a current treatment option in the treatment of conditions such as chronic sinus inflammations, sinus tumors, anterior skull base injuries, traumatic eye socket injuries, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks and optic nerve compression. At the same time, due to the advantage of creating minimal surgical trauma, it is increasingly preferred in lacrimal sac drainage surgeries (Dacryocystorhinostomy) and surgical treatment of pituitary gland tumors (Endoscopic hypophysectomy).

The narrow areas of the sinuses around the nose, the complexity of the anatomy, and the proximity of important organs such as the brain, eyes, optic nerves, tear ducts, and jugular veins require training and experience in endoscopic sinus surgeries as well as high technical skills with a low margin of error.

The main endoscopic surgeries performed in chronic sinus diseases are;

Cleaning inflamed tissues/polyps
Opening and widening of the ejaculatory channels connecting the sinuses to the nose
Correction of anatomical problems such as concha bullosa, multiple sinus discharge holes (accessory ostium), abnormal mucosa contact areas is performed.

During endoscopic sinus surgery, general anesthesia is preferred for the comfort of the patient and surgeon, especially in surgeries where advanced technological devices such as navigation, balloons and microdebriders are used.

The duration of surgery varies depending on the degree of prevalence of the pathology and whether there are additional interventions to be performed in the same surgery, such as correcting the curvature of the nose, aesthetic nose surgery, reducing the nasal flesh, and correcting anatomical variations. While intervention on a single sinus takes around 15 minutes, cleaning of the pathology affecting all sinuses can take more than two hours.

Except for rare cases, no tampon is placed inside the nose after sinus surgery, and patients can breathe easily through the nose.

At the end of the surgery, special tampons and various materials placed in the surgical area under the middle nasal flesh to prevent bleeding and tissue adhesions that may occur during healing do not adversely affect nasal breathing.

After Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

There is no serious obstruction or pain after the surgery, and simple painkillers are usually sufficient. Although it is recommended that patients stay in the hospital on the day of surgery, it may also be possible to be discharged on the same day, depending on the nature of the surgery.

It is recommended to continue antibiotic treatment for at least 10 days after the surgery. If necessary, this period can be extended or additional medications can be added.

After the surgery, sprays that mechanically clean the nose and moisturize the mucosa, usually containing sterile saline, should be used until the crusts disappear.

In patients with allergies and polyps, sprays containing cortisone and medications that reduce the risk of polyp formation are started after surgery. Oral fungal treatment is also recommended after surgery for patients with suspected allergic fungal sinusitis.

After endoscopic sinus surgeries, dressings are applied 3-4 times. At the end of the first week, during the first detailed dressing, the crusts formed in the nose and sinus drainage channels are cleaned, if any anti-adhesion materials have been placed in the sinuses, they are removed and infection control is carried out. Proper initial dressing is very important for the success of the surgery. Depending on the extent of the surgery, patients are required to come for check-ups at 7-10 day intervals until recovery is complete.

In some special cases of ESC, the possibility of failure or complications increases with the degree of difficulty of the surgery. These special cases;

Excessive bleeding in tissues during surgery
Severe inflammation in the sinuses
Surgeries, especially for tumors with high vascular content
Hypertension
Coagulation disorders (Bleeding diathesis) / Aspirin use
Anatomy has changed due to previous surgery/trauma
Hard healing tissue has formed due to previous surgeries
Common polyps that alter normal anatomy
Tumors inside/outside the paranasal sinus
Anatomical changes (variations)
These can be listed as surgeries for the posterior ethmoid, sphenoid and frontal sinuses.

There are some minor and major complications encountered during or after endoscopic sinus surgeries. The most important of these are

active bleeding
Intraorbital (inside the eye) bleeding
Carotid (jugular vein) rupture
Orbital (eye socket) trauma
Endophthalmitis (backward displacement of the eye)
Eye movement disorder and double vision (diplopia)
Nasolacrimal duct (tear duct) trauma
Cerebrospinal fluid leak
Intracranial complications

Abscess

Allergic Rhinitis

What is Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergy symptoms occur when the immune system in the body reacts to any foreign substance. Our immune system delivers antibodies to the location of the allergen and aims to protect our body in this way. This struggle between allergens and antibodies sent by the immune system causes the release of various chemicals into the blood; These chemicals released into the blood also cause allergic disease symptoms. Allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever; It is defined as an allergic reaction that develops when the immune system overreacts to substances taken into the body through breathing. Allergic rhinitis (hay fever), whose incidence increases especially with the arrival of spring, affects more and more people every day.

What are the Types of Allergic Rhinitis?

There are two types of allergic rhinitis. We can list them as follows

Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis

Long-Term Allergic Rhinitis Occurring Throughout the Year

What are the symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergic rhinitis symptoms are similar to the common cold. However, while the main cause of the common cold is a virus, the cause of allergic rhinitis is not a virus. Although allergic rhinitis is a very common allergic reaction, seasonal allergic rhinitis is especially common in children and adolescents. Most patients suffering from allergic rhinitis experience symptoms before the age of 20. Symptoms that do not change in early adulthood begin to improve in middle age and later.

We can list the signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis, which causes many symptoms, as follows:

Sneeze,

nasal congestion,

runny nose,

Postnasal drip,

Itchy and watery eyes,

swelling of the eyelids,

Itching in the mouth, throat, ears and face

Sore throat

dry cough

Headache

Dark circles under the eyes

Facial pain or feeling of pressure

Partial loss of hearing, taste and smell

Fatigue and weakness

The severity of these symptoms varies from person to person. In addition, many people suffering from allergic rhinitis also suffer from asthma.

What are the Causes of Allergic Rhinitis?

The immune system, which is extremely prominent in fighting harmful substances such as viruses and bacteria; It can overreact to some substances such as pollen, animal dander, and mold, even if they are harmless. This reaction is called “allergic reaction”.

While seasonal allergic rhinitis is usually caused by tree, meadow and grass pollens flying in the air; Pollens in the region where you live stand out as the determining factor in the development and severity of the disease. This is why some people who move get rid of their complaints or their complaints increase. Finally, due to higher pollen amounts in dry and windy weather, seasonal allergic rhinitis symptoms may increase.

Long-term (yearly) allergic rhinitis can be triggered by the following factors:

Dust and household items

cockroaches

Smoke

What are the Risk Factors for Allergic Rhinitis?

There are some risk factors that trigger the allergic reaction called allergic rhinitis (hay fever). We can list these risk factors as follows:

Past history of allergies in family members.

The individual has food allergies or other allergies (such as eczema),

Exposure to cigarette smoke as a second-hand smoker.

Who Gets Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergic rhinitis can occur in any age group and is most commonly seen in the 18-25 age group. It can also be seen in newborn babies and right after infancy. With the deterioration of environmental conditions, the possibility of allergic rhinitis has increased and the age limit has disappeared. Allergic rhinitis affects approximately 20% of children and adults today.

What are the Allergic Rhinitis Diagnosis Methods?

To diagnose allergic rhinitis, the doctor asks questions about your family members and personal allergy history. Because when it comes to allergic rhinitis, the condition of the patient and family members is extremely important. We can list some questions that can be asked at this stage as follows:

Is there a time period when symptoms are common? That is, do your complaints vary depending on a particular time of day or season?

Do you have a pet?

Have you made any changes in your diet and eating habits?

Do you use any medications?

After this stage, a physical examination may be performed and a skin test may be recommended to determine what you are allergic to. An example of these tests is the skin prick test, in which some allergens are applied to the skin in small amounts. This application is carried out with the help of a needle or scratch. If the individual has any allergies, the area where the test is performed will be swollen and red. In some cases, a blood test may be used to find out which allergic substances you react to.

What are the Allergic Rhinitis Treatment Methods?

If you suffer from allergic rhinitis and the triggers that cause allergic rhinitis have been identified by your doctor, the first step of treatment is to stay away from these triggers and take precautions. Apart from this, two methods stand out in the allergic rhinitis treatment process: drug therapy and vaccine therapy.

Allergic Rhinitis Drug Treatment

Antihistamines, cortisone sprays (corticosteroids) and saline can be used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. If there is severe nasal congestion, decongestants can be used for a short time at first. If there is too much discharge from the nose, ipratropium nasal sprays may be beneficial. It is also known that cortisone sprays are extremely effective in the treatment of nasal congestion caused by allergic reactions.

Medication is one of the most commonly used methods in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. However, the point that should not be forgotten here is that medications will only be effective on complaints as long as they are used. If drug treatment is stopped, allergy symptoms recur in a short time. Another point that should be taken into consideration is that the medications to be used must be under the control and knowledge of the doctor. Because some drugs used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis can cause serious side effects.

Allergic Rhinitis Vaccine Treatment

Vaccine therapy, which stands out as another method used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, is defined as a cause-oriented method. Before starting vaccine treatment, necessary allergy tests should be performed and the allergen or allergens that cause complaints in the individual should be identified. With vaccine treatment, substances that cause allergic symptoms are administered in increasing doses, thus aiming to provide immunity against the allergen that causes distress in the individual.

When it comes to vaccine treatment, injections are given once a week at first, and then once a month as soon as the maintenance dose is reached. Unlike drug treatment, vaccine treatment has a long-term effect on the individual’s complaints and continues its effect even after the treatment is terminated. In addition, research on this subject for a long time has suggested that the development of new allergens can be prevented with vaccine treatment.

Nose Aesthetics

What is Nose Aesthetics?

One of the structures that determine the facial features and draw attention because it is in the middle of our face is the nose. The nose is the most broken organ due to sports, accident or trauma due to its protruding structure on our face. For these reasons, rhinoplasty is one of the most applied aesthetic procedures. Curvatures or obstructions that cause breathing difficulties can also be corrected by performing septoplasty during rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed to anyone whose expectations are realistic and reasonable, taking into account additional diseases, in the period after the age of 17, when facial bone development is completed. In the past, noses with a very raised tip, a very carved back and a very obvious design were aimed, but today the goal is to create a result that is in balance with other structures on the face, befits the face, is not very obvious and does not have difficulty in breathing (except for the patient group who wants to be aesthetically obvious). .

Since each person’s nose is unique to him, nose surgeries should be planned and performed individually. For this reason, it is important that you express to your doctor the features that you do not like about your nose and that you want to change during the pre-operative examination. People who think about having a nose surgery usually think a lot about this issue and when they look in the mirror, they only see their nose. The doctor you apply to can analyze your nose and other structures of your face (chin, cheekbones, forehead, eyebrows), their general harmony without focusing only on your nose, and can give you information about the procedures that need to be done in addition to the nose surgery. For example: filling these areas in a person with sunken cheekbones, advancing the tip of the jaw in a person with a chin that is too far back, or clarification with filling will provide a better aesthetic result. If you do not take these suggestions into account, the general facial expression will not give the result you want, even if you have a beautiful nose.

In rhinoplasty, two types of surgical methods called open and closed techniques are applied. Beyond the personal preference of the operating surgeon, both techniques have different advantages and disadvantages. Which of these techniques will be applied is decided after the examination. The duration of this operation, which is performed under General Anesthesia, is 2.5-3 hours. If only the cartilage at the tip of the nose will be intervened, local anesthesia may also be preferred. At the end of the surgery, silicone pads are placed in the nostrils if deemed necessary. These tampons are usually removed after 3-5 days. The plaster or splint placed on the back of the nose is removed after about 9-10 days. If only the tip of the nose has been intervened, it is not necessary to put a plaster cast, tapes will suffice. There is mild to moderate pain after the surgery and oral painkillers are sufficient for pain control. If you feel very well after rhinoplasty, you can be discharged on the same day, but patients usually stay in the hospital for 1 day.

Post-operative swelling and bruises may vary from person to person and the size of the surgery. Swelling and bruising may be more common in smokers due to cough and pressure increase after surgery. In order to limit and reduce this swelling and bruising, it is recommended to apply cold compresses around the nose and on the eyelids intermittently for 2 days. Keeping the head elevated also helps to limit the formation of edema. In the first days and weeks after nose surgery, your breathing may not be very comfortable due to edema and crusts in the nose. The use of some drops and creams during this period softens the crusts and makes them easier to clean.

The bruises and swellings around the eyes and nose generally go away after 2-4 weeks. After this period, the person who does not know him/her will not realize that he/she has had the surgery and will be able to go out into the community at the end of this period. Of course, the patient does not have to be on bed rest during this period, although he cannot do heavy sports, he can walk. One week after the operation, he can return to non-heavy working conditions such as desk jobs. It takes 1 year for the swelling to go down over time and the nose to take its final shape. During this time, your doctor may recommend various massages for you.

After rhinoplasty, as in any surgery, some undesirable situations may occur. There may be risks associated with general anesthesia, as well as bleeding, infection or wound healing problems. There may be numbness in the nose area for several months after rhinoplasty, especially in open technique procedures. After the operation, dryness can be seen in the nasal mucosa. This situation is more common in the winter months, in areas with low humidity or in houses with dry air heaters. It may be necessary to use sprays that moisturize the inside of the nose for a longer time. Sometimes there may be permanent or temporary changes in the sense of smell. This problem is more common in patients who are operated on the nasal septum. nose surgery
